Explore the world of fly fishing, from Honduras to Alaska, Dubai to Africa, without leaving Sanders County, during the 12th annual Fly Fishing Film Tour, coming to the Rex Theatre in Thompson Falls on April 28.

This is the first year the international film festival has landed in Thompson Falls, and it promises to be an entertaining and informative evening for folks who enjoy fly fishing or even just watching a good film.

“The stories are compelling, and the locations are stunning,” said Reg Crawford, a project leader with Panhandle Trout Unlimited, which has hosted the Fly Fishing Film Tour in Sandpoint, Idaho, the past seven years. “You don’t need to be a fly fisherman to enjoy these movies.”

The tour is being brought to Thompson Falls by the Lower Clark Fork Watershed Group, Sanders County Flycasters, the Panhandle chapter of Trout Unlimited, and the Kaniksu Land Trust. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Rex Theatre.

In addition to films about pack-rafting in Alaska’s wilderness, and fishing in Central America, the collection of films will feature “Roots; Bringing Back the Bull River,” a short video about revegetation efforts in the Bull River Valley. The film was produced by the Lower Clark Fork Watershed Group and Green Mountain Conservation District to educate the public about collaborative water quality work that’s underway in the Bull River to benefit fish and wildlife.

Beer and concessions will be served in the lobby, where information from participating organizations will be on display. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the films will roll at 7 p.m. Tickets are $7 in advance or $8 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased in Thompson Falls at Minnie’s Cafe, the D&D Liquor or online from links on the Lower Clark Fork Watershed Group’s website (look for the Calendar) or the Fly Fishing Film Tour’s website.
